Like many other businesses, Hunt Valley Contractors had a humble beginning. CEO, Tom Sparks, was working for a concrete company with plans to start his own business. He initially kept his concrete job and worked on his business with his wife, Linda Sparks, part-time during the weekends. When Tom’s employer suddenly closed shop, he was given the opportunity to take clients that still had work to be done. This catapulted the opening of TomLin Construction.
TomLin Construction had a few employees to help Tom with pouring concrete one project at a time. Eventually, the business merged with others and Hunt Valley Contractors was born. On a normal day, Tom stumbled upon some stamped concrete at a church and immediately wanted to know more. He did the research to find the proper training and now, concrete stamping is one of Hunt Valley Contractors’ specialties!
Eventually, Hunt Valley Contractors got its first government job, and this began the transition from residential concrete work to commercial. Hunt Valley Contractors made such a mark in the concrete world, they were asked to help rebuild the Pentagon after the 9/11 attacks in 2001.
In 2008, Hunt Valley Contractors got the opportunity to become a playground installer. It was in 2009 when Hunt Valley Contractors’ sister company, Sparks@Play, was established and run by Tom’s children, Isaac and Stephanie Sparks.
Today, Hunt Valley Contractors is extremely active in concrete staining, playground installation, and much more in Maryland, DC, Virginia, West Virginia, Delaware, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Tennessee. Hunt Valley Contractors is still growing and continues to provide high quality work and service!
